Stowarzyszenie Architektów Polskich Oddział Kraków serdecznie zaprasza na wykład, którego autorem jest amerykański architekt Gregory Spaw, profesor na Wydziale Architektury University of Tennessee w Knoxville, goszczący obecnie w Krakowie jako visiting professor na Wydziale Architektury Politechniki Krakowskiej.
Gregory Thomas Spaw uzyskał tytuł inżyniera architekta na Wydziale Architektury w Kansas State University, a tytuł magistra otrzymał na Harvard University Graduate School of Design. Po ukończeniu studiów wykładał w Boston Architectural College. Pracował w biurach projektowych: Bohlin Cywinski Jackson, Preston Scott Cohen Inc., Asymptote w Zjednoczonych Emiratach Arabskich oraz w Seulu, Atenach i Brukseli z LA.S.S.A. W 2009 wygrał konkurs w ramach projektu Indie Architecture's dla młodych architektów PS1 w Queens w Nowym Jorku. Gregory Spaw jest obecnie profesorem na Wydziale Architektury University of Tennessee, oraz współwłaścicielem biura projektowego SHO.
Critical Inquiries | Critical Overlaps
As a collaborative practice that straddles the multiple territories of DESIGN TEACHING, RESEARCH, and PRACTICE, we are very much interested in the CRITICAL OVERLAP that occurs at the convergence of these realms. Through TEACHING we are engaged in the institutional codification of knowledge, while being exposed to a wide variety of creative ideas that the instructional environment presents. Using RESEARCH as a vehicle of inquiry, we develop and further these ideas, hypothesizing and prototyping while contributing to the greater body of knowledge. Finally in PRACTICE we validate through implementation and fabrication, confronting issues of scale, scalability, efficiency, and viability. As a cyclical feedback loop, these territories overlap and inform one another, enabling us to reflect critically on the design practice as a whole. We intentionally engage in a wide variety of materials, technologies, processes, and mediums. While digitally proficient, we are also very materially conscious, and through experience our expertise is grounded in the process of bringing the virtual construct into physical reality. Our goal is very much to be an AGILE PRACTICE, one that incorporates a diverse range of approaches to design and fabrication via collaboration and innovation through making.
