Duchowość przestrzeni miasta w XXI wieku jest realizowana zarówno przez obiekty sakralne jak i świeckie. „Zarezerwowana” dawniej dla budynków religijnych obecnie jest niejako rozproszona w świątyniach różnych religii, ale i w miejscach pamięci, miejscach kultu i czci bohaterów, mauzoleach, pomnikach ofiar międzynarodowego terroryzmu. Zjawisko to zostało już zaobserwowane i opisane przez wielu badaczy kultury i w jego obrębie można zauważyć różne podejścia do interpretacji problemu i odnalezienia jego istoty:
od Teologii Chrześcijańskiej Środowiska Wybudowa­nego do teorii świeckiego Sacrum. Bez ryzyka popad­nięcia w?pseudonaukowy fałsz możemy powiedzieć, że wszystkie przestrzenie duchowe – tak religijne, jak i?świeckie – zbudowane są wokół problemów egzys­tenc­jalnych wspólnych dla wszystkich ludzi. The spirituality in the space of the city in the 21st century is realized both by secular and sacral objects. Once reserved to be present in the religious structures only, it is now being sort of dispersed in the places of memory, places of cult of the heroes and their deeds, mausoleums, monuments of the victims of international terror and, finally the sacral buildings of different religions. This has been noticed and is described by different cultural researchers. There are different approaches to the overall problem: from the Christian Theology of the Built Environment to the theories of Secular sacrum. Without much risk of falling into a scientific falsehood we can say, nevertheless, that all the spiritual spaces, both religious and secular, are built around the existential problems which are common to all people. They deal with the problems of life, love, suffering and death ...
